    CrossFit Llantrisant has always sought to combine the most effective training principles to create a system for developing optimum fitness and athleticism.

    The CrossFit program instills the notion of constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity exercise in the way the body was designed to move, as efficiently, effectively and quickly as possible to achieve the goal of broad, general and inclusive fitness.

    Chris Blackwell, the co-owner and head coach of CrossFit Llantrisant, provides our programming. His programming is featured on this site, and is followed by athletes from all around the UK. Chris’s coaching has been responsible for many top CrossFit athletes over the last 3 years, as well as many competitors in the sport of Weightlifting.

    He has written extensively about his programming, and the importance of practicing Olympic Weightlifting for the development of overall fitness. Chris holds a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and has an extensive strength and conditioning background with 10 years experience.

    He is a Level 2 Olympic Weightlifting coach and holds affiliations with British and Welsh Weightlifting. Chris also holds the Level 1 CrossFit and CrossFit Strongman qualifications.

  • Olympic Weightlifting

    Olympic weightlifting, also called Olympic-style weightlifting, or weightlifting, is an athletic discipline in the modern Olympic programme in which the athlete attempts a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates.

    We take weightlifting very seriously here at CrossFit Llantrisant, running our official weightlifting club 'Llantrisant Weightlifting'. If your looking to start weightlifting as a beginner, take your lifting to another level or use it as a tool to improve performance in your sport we can help.

    We run weightlifting classes all week and train some of the best athletes in the country. We have a number of qualified lifting coaches to ensure all members develop skills that improve standards of technical ability and strength.

    Head coach and founder Chris Blackwell runs Llantrisant Weightlifting. Chris is a British Weightlifting Level 2 Coach and is affiliated with both British and Welsh Weightlifting.

  • CrossFit Kids / Teens

    CrossFit Kids:

    CrossFit Kids is a method for teaching Greg Glassman's CrossFit to children ages 3-11 year old. Based on the Principles of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity our programme emphasises good movement throughout childhood and adolescence.

    Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries. Also, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the programme can have a positive impact on children's academic achievement.

    CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG fun for all ages and we make it FUN.

    BROAD-INCLUSIVE-GENERAL fun.

    Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits which means all round better health and less childhood obesity.

    Further, the needs of all out CrossFit kids differ by degree and not kind, the programme is scalable for any age or experience level.

     

    CrossFit Teens:

    CFL Teens is a strength and conditioning program designed for 12-17 years old athletes and non-athletes alike. The program combines age-appropriate weightlifting and gymnastics with high intensity training to deliver optimal fitness and performance, as well as establish a lifetime love of fitness.

    Proper weightlifting techniques are taught, under the watchful eye of Rhich to enhance strength and power, while also focusing on basic gymnastics to increase agility, mobility and flexibility. Our program will increase physical competence in 10 fitness domains: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.

    In addition, we aim to boost self-esteem and confidence within our teens. We want to give them the strength, both physically and mentally, to tackle any obstacle thrown their way inside or out of the gym. With workouts that are scalable for all individuals, our CrossFit Teens can equally benefit both the accomplished athlete as well as the less active individual.

    If your teenager is already an athlete, our program is designed to take them to the next level by teaching proper mechanics, recovery, movement, nutrition, and flexibility.

    CFL Teens is ideal for any teenage athlete looking to get the edge over the competition in their chosen sport. Most teen athletic programs focus on one specific sport. This can lead to overuse injuries. Plus athletes who do not participate in a diverse program tend not to develop strengths disassociated with their sports. We instead aim to create an all-around athlete that will excel at any sport or physical task thrown their way.

    your teen is not an athlete, our program is guaranteed to help them establish healthy lifestyle habits, and convert them from a sedentary lifestyle to a more active, prolific one. Our primary goals are to convey the notion that fitness can be fun, and help these teens develop a positive self-image.

    Teens are faced with so many pressures and unnecessary stress these days. We are committed to helping them understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise. We want the teens in our program to develop a positive body image, improve cognitive function, protect them against injury by teaching proper body mechanics, and create a community of like-minded, confident individuals that can turn to one another for support. Crossfit not only teaches one how to work out, it teaches one the essence of focus, perseverance, dedication, and motivation. Our teen program makes kids healthy and fit. It not only builds strength in the body but it also strengthens the mind.
