Crossfit Llantrisant’s 2016 Fundraiser
Earn and Burn
It’s not just about eating cake this year! Help us fundraise to purchase a defibrillator.
On Friday 14th and Saturday 15th October 2016 we will be selling cakes to raise money to purchase a defibrillator from the Welsh Hearts charity. Cakes will be on sale starting at 6am for the Friday morning Prime Time class who fancy starting their day with cake! Cakes will be on sale throughout the Friday to include the 9.30 class, Teens class and 5.30 class. The cake sale will open again on Saturday to include the Partner WOD at 9am and finally the Kids class.
Sounds good so far… Now this is where the exercise bit happens! It is a CrossFit gym after all. You can buy as many cakes as you like, however you need to Earn and Burn! We are asking you to either row or cycle 1000m for time. We need to make it a bit more challenging than just eating cake! Don’t forget to jot your distance on the white board. The distance will be totalled at the end of the two days and prizes for the fastest times.
Competition1– Pay £1 to enter the ‘Guess the total distance achieved’ competition. The winner will receive one month free membership to the gym.
Competition 2– Pay an extra £1 and record your name and time on the board. The quickest 1000m row and cycle will each win a bottle of bubbly.
If you are able to make cakes to donate, great! Ask family and friends to get baking too. All donations gratefully received.
We will be having a raffle too. Tickets will be £1 each and will be on sale for a week or so before the event and on the two days. We would be grateful if, you could donate a raffle prize. Dig deep and be imaginative! Please put any raffle prizes in the labelled box behind the desk and we will display the prizes closer to the event. The raffle will be take place after the Kids Class on Saturday. A list of prize winners will then be displayed in the gym.
Last year, our fundraiser was very successful and we raised a whopping £556, however we need to beat that total this year. We are aiming to raise the £1000 to purchase a defibrillator. Now for the serious bit… Many people associate heart disease, cardiac arrests and heart attacks with older people, but this isn’t the case and hundreds die every year from undiagnosed heart conditions. Our chosen charity aims to raise awareness and offers free heart screening sessions which are quick and painless. At CrossFit Llantrisant, your safety and health is important to us and we want to ensure we are prepared should something happen. Every second counts when someone is having a cardiac arrest. There are 8000 sudden cardiac arrests outside of hospitals in Wales every year and only a 3% survival rate. A defibrillator is able to restart the heart during a cardiac arrest and it can save lives. When used, the survival rate can increase to 50% but a speedy response is crucial. With your support we would like to purchase a defibrillator for the gym which will also service the local area.
“The modern defibrillator machines are extremely smart, providing diagnosis, careful, simple visual and audio instruction prompts, and they have built-in safety features which prevent inappropriate or incorrect use. As such they are designed for use by non-medical, inexperienced members of the public and are “IDIOT PROOF”. Since victims of cardiac arrest are in immediate danger, intervention is vital. Merely sending for an ambulance is simply not enough”.
Hopefully, one evening in late November/early December, we can invite Welsh Hearts to the gym to present us with our new defibrillator. You will be welcome to join us and receive the free Defibrillator and CPR training offered by the charity. Children 10 years and above are welcome to attend with their parents. This event is open to members and non-members so please bring your friends and family along.
So please help us promote this event and join us on Friday 14th and/or Saturday 15th October to Earn and Burn. Bring friends and family to row, cycle, buy raffle tickets, enter the competitions and eat cake.
